Insights into Artistry
Experience the unveiling of a thrilling new work at our spring concert, 8 pm Saturday, April 26 at the acoustically compelling Wilshire United Methodist Church. Liviu Marinescu’s Focus, written on commission from The Nimbus Ensemble, will be performed in its intended setting alongside his Morphing and Instant. The trilogy traverses a powerful musical landscape from this gifted Romanian émigré.
A late work from an earlier Romanian master, George Enescu’s 1954 Chamber Symphony receives its Los Angeles premiere on the same program. Taken together, these nuanced and sophisticated scores take us to the heart of a rich musical soil (consider that Bartók, Ligeti, Xenakis and Kurtág were all born there).
A privileged glimpse into the writing of Focus is available through our innovative video-log which explores Marinescu’s artistic vision and creative methods. These periodic installments chronicle the composer over time as his composition takes shape.
Enjoy this insightful series. Then come experience the concert with a deep understanding of this engaging artist’s mind and music.
